Consider this: when you blow up a balloon and let go of it. The inward air propels the balloon outward. How a pneumatic conveying system works It uses air to push materials — grains, powders, pellets — through pipes to their destination. You send them completely trackless on a rollercoaster ride!
When we create a system, we must consider the materials we are actually moving. Some materials are heavy, some are light, some are tacky. We also need to think about how far they have to go and how fast they are supposed to go. We apply special math to ensure everything runs smoothly.
We want out systems to go fast and power, cheetah! We select the appropriate size pipes, fans, and filters to do so. We also focus on the flow of the materials and how much air pressure we require. By deliberately making these choices we can really make our systems great!
There’s plans, and then there’s plans that become a nightmare. It can stick to or clog up pipes. The air pressure may not be great enough to force everything through. But don’t worry! And we have lots of tricks for solving these problems. We can vary airflow, change pipe angles, or apply special coatings to promote flow.
